I have a confession – I have a love/hate relationship with the idea of making artwork in a series. Part of me likes the comfort of working with a framework (even if it’s a loose one) and another part of me kicks the wall and waits for the boredom to set in.
I admire the discipline of artists who embrace series work. I just struggle with it personally.
But I’ve kind of stumbled onto something I’d like to explore more. I’m calling them Pen + Ink Collages. They are mini little works that I make in the evenings and I’m so enjoying the process. I’ve started experimenting with watercolors too. Just picked up the book, Atmospheric Watercolours, to learn a bit more about them.
Here are the first three collages. One thing I’m working on is giving the color room to breathe by incorporating more white/negative space. (Well. Most of the time. Sometimes I just keep going going going.) I’m looking into having them printed as frameable 5″x7″ prints. If you know of a source that you like for that, I’d love it if you leave a comment.
